Embarrassing choices

…between a nation’s two most objectionable alternatives – Judas of Daura and Barabbas of Adamawa

PART 2

“The Generals have garrisoned every public space in Nigeria: the industrial-private sector; the civil service – public sector; the political-elective spaces; the cultural-diplomatic; the socio-psychological spaces; the ethical-moral; religio-spiritual; geo-agricultural, geo-political, etc, such that till date, Nigeria remains the world’s biggest/largest barracks/garrison/cantonment/brigade. Their children/wards, cronies, concubines in their teens and early twenties are already billionaires in pounds and dollars without working or sweating to earn these filthy lucre!”

…between a nation’s two most objectionable alternatives – Judas of Daura and Barabbas of Adamawa

PART 1

JOHN ODEY ADUMA in this article lamented the unfortunate choices the West African State of Nigeria, henceforth to be known and called the STATE OF NATURE under the current Sunni-APC-led Government is left with - Muhammadu Buhari (Judas/Hitler of Daura) and Atiku Abubakar (Barabbas/Barawo of Adamawa) for whom they will vote in the 2019 Presidential Election.

The Future of Chadian Foreign Policy in an Age of Uncertainty

Since gaining its independence from France in 1960, there have rarely been so many open questions regarding Chad's role in the world. What is Chad's place in Africa, CEMAC or the African Union? What risks and opportunities exist for Chad in a conflict-ridden Africa? As foreign policy of any country is a reflection of its internal situation; many Chadians have high-arguably temperamental or unrealistic expectations of the economic boost that normalized relations will confer - heir initial optimism has been tempered as they wait for the international community to outline its next moves and endure an economic crisis brought on by years of corruption and poor governance. But the importance of the geostrategic location of Chad has led to attracting the interest of many countries, especially the developed ones.

With tears in my eyes and a great sorrow in my heart for my late elder brother, LAWRENCE OHIERO LEGA ONWOGIDI (LOLO) who alongside other patriotic and gallant soldiers fought in the civil war in Nigeria that lasted 30-months to KEEP NIGERIA ONE, I dedicate this poem which is part of my MAKE NIGERIA ONE AGAIN® series.

Chad has ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in 1995, more popularly known as the Women's Convention is the international women's rights treaty that spells out women's rights and obliges governments to ensure respect for these rights. However, it's still not sure whether there are some Chadian women know that if Chad ratified the optional protocol to CEDAW or the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, better known as the Maputo Protocol.

In this journey, I’ll take you through some key phases of Africa’s revolutions that are about to shake up and reshape the continent very soon. Few predicted the defeat of the Gambia’s Yahya Jammeh; the decision of the Supreme Court in Kenya and the victory of the opposition in Nigeria. Therefore, the next great African moment could be just around the corner, as is the cases in any continent with a complicated political landscapes and power sharing systems, crises do occur. But, such crises have so far evolved through social and constitutional means, which is unprecedented in Africa’s recent history. For better and worse, the emerging African geopolitical landscape is drawing to a close an era of revolutions. The central challenge of our time is posed not by civil war or terrorism as it used to be, but rather by the intensifying turbulence caused by the phenomenon of national consciousness and global political awakening. Such awakening is politically radicalizing and socially massive - a process of socio-political renewal is underway across the continent, as long as some regimes that tightly control the political landscape will hold elections that they have no intention of losing.

BY DON OKEREKE, SECURITY ANALYST AND CONSULTANT

S/election seasons in Nigeria are synonymous with war situations, a do-or-die affair. Barely six months to Nigeria’s defining 2019 general elections, governance and business activities are almost at a standstill. Machiavellian intrigues, seismic political stunts, inter-party defections, impeachment plots are now the new normal in Nigeria. The political wheeling and dealing playing out in Nigeria is having a butterfly-effect on the already fragile economy, volatile political climate, security, geo-political risk, instability. For the second year in a row, the Fragile States Index, FSI, released by the Washington DC-based think-tank, Fund for Peace, FFP, ranked Nigeria as the 13th least stable country in the world. Similarly, Nigeria ranks 148 out of 168 on the 2018 Global Peace Index (GPI), by the Institute for Economics and Peace.
