Once again, it is rather unfortunate that the elections had to be postponed by the umpire body – INEC, due to circumstances beyond its control.

Painful and sad as well as costly as the postponement has been to the Government, the parties, the Nigerian people as a whole, particularly the electorate, who have been earnestly and very enthusiastically waiting to cast their ballots, yet I do on behalf of my Government counsel patience to all concerned and appeal to them not to take the laws into their hands.

It is regrettable to learn that some Nigerians have had to travel from far and near expecting to perform this civic duty of theirs as contained in the nation’s constitution, nevertheless, it is my candid appeal once more, that all who have been affected and aggrieved by this postponement should listen to the voice of wisdom, give peace a chance and cooperate with INEC to get the job done.

And for all trouble makers and those planning to snatch ballot boxes for reasons best known to them, my Government will appeal to them severally to listen to the voice of reason or go ahead with their plans and plots and face the wrath of the law of the land.

Similarly, I will like to appeal to parents and the guardians of such persons to warn their children, wards and loved ones who may yield to the temptations of such irresponsibility and intransigent against our nation to desist from engaging in any illegalities or criminal tendencies that will put a cog in the wheel of our democratic processes as the security agencies are ready to prosecute such persons and make them face the full wrath of the law.
