As you read this article, I’d like you to imagine yourself inside a 1960 truck – Bedford model, having as its number plate FGN 1914 with passengers from all parts of Nigeria inside it being conveyed back to the past on this badly damaged and panel-beaten truck – DAURA EXPRESS, which had not only been patched and patched and welded again and again all over, but actually had seen many years – both good and bad, and both pleasant and unpleasant, whose driver is simply known at the motor park and by the passengers as BABA DAURA or BABA REHOBOAM, and his very sheepish and obsequious conductor is known variously to the same audiences as BABA RUGADITY or BABA AWOOF in which they hope to convey all the passengers therein back to the usually blood-littered, bumpy, crater-ridden infamous Federal Highway – ROAD ’66 believed to be worse and more dangerous than the Jericho Road of old.

INTRODUCTION
Under the Muhammadu Buhari-Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association and the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore-Sunni Arabs-led Government’s Operation Grazie, the exact equivalent of the 1962 Operation Wetie by the Yorubas that snowballed into series of events that ultimately led to the so-called Nigerian civil war (1967-1970), but which to this writer, was simply a jihad, every nook and cranny of the West African State of Nigeria is today grazable as on the highways, schools, colleges and the universities, libraries - even the OOPLA, Kongi’s residence, palaces, especially in the South, playgrounds, forest reserves, media houses, green belt areas, super markets, the Parliament (the so-called NASS), markets, churches and mosques, hair beauty and cow beauty salons, the sprawling Redeemed Estate/Holy Ghost Night ground, Canaan City, industrial estates, pubs, night clubs, etc, etc, whereupon the annoying cries of Moo, moo by cows rent the air with the people’s only weapon of defence is: Kai! Kai! Kai! as the cows invade and occupy every UNOCCUPIED and the already occupied spaces, including Bourdillon! But did I just hear my opportunistic sister activist, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari leaning her ‘jaw’ on the wall of IRUGA ONOKOKU to manage a weak contribution to this national tragedy by saying: THE FEAR OF COWS IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM?

Security Risk Analysis: Kidnapping Hotbeds in South West Nigeria

Introduction: The first tranche of this series titled ‘’Security Risk Analysis: Kidnapping Hotbeds in Nigeria (1)’’, summed up data on reported kidnapping incidents and hotspots across Nigeria. Granted there are one-off incidents, but research indicates that many kidnapping incidents reoccur within some geographical swathes, along major highways in Nigeria. The kidnapping almost always entails an ambush usually at bad portions of the road and usually take place early in the morning or evenings. We can deduce inter-alia that: there is dearth of security in such areas. It is also safe to extrapolate that the masterminds, foot soldiers of kidnappings in those climes are not behind bars; they lurk around and it is a matter of time before they stage their next kidnap and extort ransom. In his May 28, 2019 piece published on BBC Africa, Nasidi Adamu Yahaya’s piece titled, ‘’How Nigeria and its president are being held to ransom’’, chronicles the ‘booming business of kidnapping for ransom and extortion (KRE) in Nigeria’. Former US ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell argues in his piece titled, ‘’The Intelligence Response Team: Nigeria’s Solution To Expanding Wave of Kidnappings’’ that, ‘’Nigerians believe they are in the midst of a kidnapping wave and that the government is largely powerless to stop it. Fear of kidnapping appears to be a factor in middle-class emigration from Nigeria and the wealthy sending their families abroad’’.

Similar to a nation gearing up for war, the Nigerian space, political entropy is usually supercharged during elections and the 2019 general election is no exception. There is hysteria in the air as if the country is going to implode. Land and sea borders are shut preparatory to elections. The frenzy takes a toll on businesses, foreign direct investment (FDI) plummets and the Stock exchange bottoms out. To give us an idea, the volume of shares traded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in January 2019 dropped by 42.38 per cent. Analysts attributed this to ‘’uncertainties surrounding the forthcoming general elections’’. The latent hostility in Nigeria exacerbated when few hours to the commencement of voting, Nigeria’s federal election umpire - the INEC bandied - ‘’logistics and operational problems’’ – as reason for postponing the 2019 presidential and national assembly/gubernatorial elections by one week. This set the stage for series of shoddy, inconclusive elections unprecedented in the annals of the country.
