So you wanna hire police for your next party? Go see the DPO, give him 2p and take as many police as you can!

There is no country on the planet earth where police abuse by every LAGBAJA & JALAGBA is prevalent as in Nigeria. Police officers in Nigeria do not merely suffer verbal abuses in Nigeria hurled at them by most ungrateful Nigerians who think the business of policing is as cheap and easy as a man selling pepper soup (a Nigerian delicacy) and Ogogoro (Nigerian gin) at AJEGUNLE REPUBLIC.

On daily basis, police suffer untold indignity in the hands of Nigerians. In collusion with the IGP, Police Commissioners, Divisional Police Officers especially, Nigerians assign non-policing, non-constitutional roles to the police, thereby taking them off from frontline duties, whilst kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminals are on the prowl picking Nigerians of means one after the other as a man picking snails at Okipu farmland in Yala.

Mr Solo-jumping-about-the-place Arase and his officers are so stupidly generous that if a militant or some pompous Nigerians in the Diaspora coming home, go to them and ask for protection, they just ask them to take many officers as they want for £5.00, turning our police into toro police! Some time in 2007, one of the nation's 'Been tos' lawyers who gave just £50.00 to a DPO, was told by the shameless and good-for-nothing DPO: "Take as many as you want. Wetin dem dey do here, no be to stay and talk and talk and receive salaries?"

And taking advantage of the DPO's very stupid generosity, the man said he took seven police officers and according to this 'BEEN TO BIG MAN', he kept two in his law firm in Lagos, two guarding his house and three accompanying him wherever he had to go, whilst his visit home lasted - the three that were accompanying him about he said were even struggling with themselves as to who should carry his brief case! I had written again and again about this type of misuse of the police.

Currently, stupidly generous Arase is very much pleased with himself to have been able to reduce the number of police attached to the nation's egomaniacal governors from 150 to 15 at a time when criminals have taken over Nigeria with many Nigerians now escaping jungle Nigeria, full of 'predators' to hide over here with their families, whilst some have resorted to sleeping in places of worship and flying above the sky like eagles!

Stupidly generous Solomon Arase who together with his men can't fight Boko Haram for their gross lack of intelligence gathering, gross incompetence and total lack of strategic strategy and like lazy dogs who run away on sighting earthworm, including his equally good-for-nothing AIGs, DIGs, Commisioners and DPOs are assingning their officers to all sorts of persons - any highest bidder (AHB) and anyone who thinks they are VIPs or have just stumbled on ill-gotten wealth, hence the police are a common sight everywhere in the Nigerian Federation, doing all sorts of things which they are not being paid to do - such as carrying fragrance boxes for your FRAGRANCE COHORTS - the ex-call girls, your so-called First Ladies; pushing babies about on buggies, even made to clean childrens poohs for the so-called VIPs' wives to whom they are attached; acting as protocol officers, booking flights at airports for again, the so-called VIPs and members of their families; excorting them to and from airports, the police are used by the VIPs to whom they are attached as shoe shinners; bathing VIPs' kids; they are the most common faces at all social occasions in Nigeria, whether such social events are organised by VIPs or ordinary Nigerians for just a few change and a plate of jollof rice; with OBLOKOTO/'assorted' and ODEKU - Guinness beer (AHOHA! Enjoyment repete!); they are also engaged in other very undignifying errands such as getting call girls, amongst whom are female students in universities, higher schools, colleges of nursing and those actually in the red-light districts for the VIPs; going to the markets to buy foodstuffs for their First Ladies, wives of other VIPs or actually following them to the markets and carrying their shopping bags; taking children to schools and going to bring them back after closing.

Some Lagos residents pay DPOs and police on patrol so they give their areas priority attention in the course of their routine patrols in and around their areas of operation, some commercial drivers in Lagos and other cities hire police and military personnel to sit in front of their vehicles to avoid paying the usual 'private toll' and harrassment by other law enforcement agencies who too are interested in collecting 'private tolls' from them.

Need I mention too that police are also attached to pastors of mega churches? In fact, a pastor of a mega church in the UK used to boast to his gullible congregation whom he usually extorts money from in the name of tithes and offerings, never-ending building projects and through other church programmes carefully designed for the purpose that whenever he was in Nigeria he was given a Colonel as his orderly whom he said followed him around carrying his golf accoutrements whenever he went out playing golf and he was always boasting of his closeness and connection to the Presidency under Olusegun Obasanjo!

Also, whilst still in Nigeria, worried by the pervasive presence of soldiers in uniforms at parties, I had to take this shame up with the highest body of the nation's army at the time and this was immediately dealt with and a stop was put to it very swiftly. A Colonel acting as an orderly to a pastor? This is very shameful.

Disgusting as the police abuse is, one must not fail to condemn the police themselves for always acting despicably in a manner very unworthy of their noble profession and its centrality and indespensability in the smooth running of all our every day activities including keeping the peace and maintaining order in all of human communities. The police in Nigeria/Africa have proved to be the most unprofessional of all the police on the planet earth, comporting themselves as members of a professional class to whom anything goes, hence Nigerians treat them as the dregs of the earth who don't deserve their respect and above all, a people who must not be treated with dignity at all.

Apart from daily collecting crumbs in the name of bribes from just anybody that comes their ways, there's not a single crime that is going on in Nigeria today that the police are not complicit and sometimes, the police are the one's who supply criminals with the weapons they use to rob people with and actually covering them up.

The police in Nigeria comport themselves pitifully in a manner that gives the world the impression they just work for free without salaries. More, they are usually very dirty. A police in Nigeria, sitting on a seat near you on a public bus, which of course, they don't normally pay, you would need to cover your nose to be able to breathe - and their barracks do smell like the dumping ground for corpses.

The current Federal Government needs to look at all of the issues that have been raised above and bring the art and science of policing to international standards - these include upping their salaries, rewarding and promoting those who are genuinely serving well their fatherland and going the extra miles in all of their assignments, be they in Nigeria or in their posting to represent the country at international level.

Also, worthy of mention here is the police's and the Nigerian public's inability to distinguish between what constitutes criminal and civil offences, hence the police get themselves involved in all sorts civil cases of the minutest type when they are meant to be dealing with criminal cases leaving civil cases to lawyers and other juridical officers. The IGP needs to embark on a nation wide policing education on this via the media, bill boards, flyers, posters, etc so as to enable the police concentrate on their core constitutional duties to the Nigerian State.

Once people are made to be aware of this obvious difference through policing education, coupled with withdrawing all the police that have been attached to VIPs including former Presidents/Heads of State, serving Governors, Legislators, Local Government Chairpersons, Chief Executive Officers of companies, oil companies' front gates/receptions, where police are a common sight, to enable all of theses people and institutions engage the services of private licenced security officers, as they are not so entitled to having serving police guarding them and following them all over the place to massage their egos, we should then begin to have sufficient officers on the frontline to tackle crimes, especially if these officers are creatively, strategically and scientifically deployed.

But just how many officers are currently serving their fatherland on the frontline, Mr Arase?

It must also be stressed here that it is sheer waste of resources - the tax payers' money to assign active and serving military and police personnel to former Presidents/Heads of States, former military and police top brass who are now no longer servants of the State, but private citizens like the rest of their compatriots, hence they are through this article being warned very strongly to stop parasiting on the State and milking her dry perpetually. It's about time they began to engage the services of private licenced security and pay them from their private purses.

This nonsense MUST stop! And stop it MUST!

CONVOY AUDITING

It is hoped Sheikh Godswill Akpabio whom I learnt was involved in an accident recently has now fully recovered. Although, I'm not one of his fans or his admirers in any least way, I join hundreds of his admirers and well wishers to thank God for sparing Sheikh's life.

But why is Akpabio still going about with a convoy of cars together with siren blarings all over the place?

This nonsense has got to stop! Arase, take note.

VIPs' CONVOY AUDITING

This applies ONLY to those officers of the State whom I think should have excorts in today's Nigeria and subsequently to set free the nation's economic activities which are usually imprisoned any time these rogues are on the roads through endless and incessant traffic.

Also, less convoy means less environmental nuisance and pollution.

THE PRESIDENT

·         Two cars in front following immediately the two riders

·         THE PRESIDENT'S CAR IN THE MIDDLE

·         Followed immediately by equally two cars

·         Lastly, two riders

This will be more economical and time saving without the usual Niger bridge-length convoy which often disrupts traffic, consequently economic activities, making the nation lose billions of naira each time Mr President is on the road, and creating the wrong impression to the outside world that either Nigeria is a jungle full of predators who would snatch its President any time he dares step out or that it is a country perpetually at war with itself.
