SERIES: SOCIAL WELL BEING, HEALTH, SAFETY AND SECURITY OF THE POOR IN THE CORE NORTH OF THE WEST AFRICAN STATE OF NIGERIA

(PART 16): Porous borders and national security in times of national emergency and unparalleled adversity

Since July 13, 2020 when the 11th espousal on the current Nigerian tragedy, particularly the grave threat to national security, the looming famine beyond Biblical proportion, population explosion, intractable flooding, plight of the IDPs, the tragedy that is the children of Allah (the Almajirai), rape, youth violence, the danger of having kingdoms in kingdoms, terrorism, etc, JOHN ODEY ADUMA has been hibernating and incubating for ideas at his incubation/philosophical laboratory, and the result of that withdrawal from the crowd in search of the deeper things and meanings of life is what will be cascading from his intellectual Niagara Falls, and you would do well to enmesh/soak/saturate yourself in the falls.

And worried by the current state of reportage in the nations of the world, particularly in Nigeria, totally lacking in depth and investigation coupled with the usual resort and retreat to kinship or clannish journalism, the non-existent anonymous “authoritative source/s”, Aduma, whilst at the Daily Times of Nigeria Plc as its Editorial Board Chairman, had had to intervene to refocus the dumbing down of professionalism by propounding a theory he had then called Pyramidal or Tripodal or Triangular Criticism or Analysis, and in this series, you are going to read his latest media theories – The John Aduma Newsroom Boxes, the Dodecagonium; including political theories such as OMU, Nigerianistic Equality for the self-same reason, aimed at journalistic excellence and international best practice and in the furtherance of his vision of Nigerianism, Nigeriatopia and Nigerian exceptionalism.

You are, therefore, welcome to read, drink, soak yourself therein, debate, dissect and analyse, chew it, swallow it up, and become wiser and reflective, but you are not to plagiarise, copy and paste to claim its ownership, nor regurgitate it, but give credit to the author if you must make reference, quote from it or you are fascinated by any word, phrase/s or idea.

As a teenager at Aladura Comprehensive High School, Anthony Village, the age that the GIBB have chosen to join cultism and youth gang, it was Aduma’s dream to propound theories, be the most quoted intellectual on the planet earth and the greatest theorist and philosopher ever. And regarding that boyish dream, he is today widely quoted in academic journals and scholarly theses across the globe.

No doubt, you are already salivating and don’t want any further ‘traffic’ from the author on your way to his fountain of wisdom and knowledge, but before you are set loose, Mr Aduma ‘d like to ask you these questions: what is your dream?

Just what are your life’s dreams and goals? Happy reading!

ROMEO BARBEROPOULOS: A GREAT NIGERIAN WHO SAW THE FUTURE BEFORE ALL OF HIS COUNTRY MEN AND WOMEN

The Four Dreadful Judgements against Nigeria and the World - Sword and Famine and Wild Beasts and Plague (vigilance-securitymagazine.com). Accessed 19/03/21.

Mr Romeo V. Barberopoulos - the Chairmen’s Chairman and a great Nigerian who saw the future before it arrives, for he it was who initiated, founded, and funded The Pastoral Resolve, a pastoralists NGO to solve the then occasional clashes between the Fulani herders and farmers across Nigeria, but which has now become a sword of Damocles hanging over the head of Nigeria.

Chairman, as he was fondly called by all his staff, including this writer, after having conceived the idea of PARE (for short) based on this writer’s investigations, special features and special reports between 1992 and 1998, was to later invite his friends such as Major-General Muhammadu Buhari to become its first ever (foundation) President, alongside such other friends of his like Alhaji Alhaji, Ahmed Joda, Jibril Muhammad Aminu, to name but a few who constituted the then 14-member Board of Trustees for PARE, with this writer designing, writing the PARE literatures, in addition to writing the letters used for fund raising to eminent Nigerians in high places in the land, including the then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who is yet to say a word on all the quit notices flying all over the place now in Nigeria, as well as his then Ministers, Governors, heads of agencies, pre-eminent monarchs and other eminent Nigerians, both in the public and the private sectors.

Apart from designing and writing the PARE literatures, this writer was the Southern Coordinator of the pastoralists NGO, which was incorporated in April 1999 and took off officially in year 2000.

It is this writer’s heart-felt and patriotic plea that President Muhammadu Buhari, Ahmed Joda, who took over from President Buhari as the President of the Pastoral Resolve, Alhaji Alhaji, Professor Jibril Aminu and other pre-eminent Fulanis face the nation and tell the Nigerian people the utmost word of truth about what became of PARE, and why has this very matter – the endemic clashes between the Nigerian farmers and the Nigerian/foreign Fulani herders remained unsolved since the colonial days till the very present such that it has now pushed the nation to a point of combustibility, implosion and subsequent scatterations?

Again, the Nigerian people and the entire human community under God are called to witness that having covered the Nigerian Conservation Foundation consistently for nine years before leaving the shores of Nigeria, the matter of the Northern Nigerian ecology was always a top priority in every of the NCF’s Council meetings on whose Board, Ahmed Joda, Mr Barberopoulos (also, founded the Nigerian Foundries Ltd), and such other pre-eminent Nigerians like Chief S.L. Edu, Izoma Phil Asiodu, Senator Ede David Dafinone, Ambassador Jaiyeola Aduke Alakija, A.P. Leventis, Chief Akintola Williams, Francesca Yetunde Emmanuel, etc, were then members of the Board of Trustees, including all the Nigerian Heads of State and Presidents who had served Nigeria in that capacity since its establishment in 1980 till the present and subsequent incorporation in 1982, serving as its patrons.

Again, the aim of The Pastoral Resolve (PARE) was to move the pastoralists from subsistence to economic pastoralism and go on to lay the foundation for the take-off of a mechanized livestock farming in Nigeria with a view to empowering (financially, educationally, jobs and skills wise) first, the pastoralists, their wives, children, other dependants of theirs and by so doing, provide jobs and life’s skills to millions of other Nigerians. Thus, putting an end to nomadic pastoralism and thereby paving the way for a sedentary lifestyle/living amongst the nomads.

It must here be recorded for posterity that during that period of my pioneering investigative environmental reporting in Nigeria, when virtually all my media colleagues, including of course, my editors would accuse me of writing “monkey stories”, but for the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), A.P Leventis, Mr Romeo V. Barberopoulos and Mr Phil Hall (OBE), the British Ecologist who was instrumental to the setting up of the Sambisa Forest Reserve in 1975, no media house at the initial stage of that pioneering endeavour was ready to commit their resources to funding such environmental investigations, special features/reports across the whole of Northern Nigeria, and indeed, in and around Nigeria, because according to them, in the midst of the nation’s so-called multifaceted crises, they could not see any reason why they should commit their resources to funding “monkey stories” – environmental stories/features/investigations/reports.

It must also be stated here that it is to Mr Phil Hall’s wife, Carolyn Hall that credit must go for the establishment of an International Primary School in Maiduguri, taking off with just 10 pupils and later growing it up to 250 children.

It used to be the jokes between me and my editors such as John Oseze-Langley, the then Features Editor of The Observer, Benin City; Emeka Eluem Izeze, editor, first The Guardian on Sunday and later The Guardian; Kinsley Osadolor, formerly editor, The Guardian on Sunday; Tony Onyima, my then Features Editor at The Independent and Bola Bolawale (a.k.a. BB), formerly editor, The Punch would all joke with me in their offices: “You and this your monkey stories…”, and we would all have a rib-cracking laughter over the serious matters of environment I was highlighting then, bringing them to the attention of the nation and the world.

At times, after a courtesy call on them in their offices, instead of in the usual newsroom tradition of editors ‘discharging’ you from their offices, especially after such a courtesy call on them in their offices – “My friend, go and bring me my stories”, mine would be: “My friend, GO AND BRING ME THAT YOUR MONKEY STORY!” Then would begin another round of laughter until I would reach to take my seat in the newsroom.

Osadolor, to whom whilst as a Staff Reporter at Rutam House, I was the closest of all his reporters, one day on being handed an environmental story threw it back at me, and charged: My friend, my friend, go and bring me human angle stories!”

“I can’t understand why instead of bringing me human angle, stories, you are always writing about monkeys… you and this your monkey stories,” asked Osadolor as he burst into laughter. With the environment story now back in my hand, we both laughed and laughed.

Still laughing and cracking a joke about: “You and this ya monkey story sef”, even though I was about leaving his office, I turned back and gave him a ‘lecture’ on environmentalism, saying to him as my conclusion on my environmental discourse with him that day in his office: “Sir…without a healthy environment you cannot sit here in this your office and talk about human angle stories.”

And since that ‘lecture’, Mr Osadolor became a convert to environmentalism, listed amongst many of my editors I had converted through what I would regard as ENVIRONMENTAL EVANGELISM as a frontline Apostle of environmentalism.

After that environmental discourse, Osadolor’s interest was such that whenever he wanted to relax after the traditional newsroom pressures, he would come looking for me in the newsroom or the library, laughing and asking “…Comrade, wey ya monkey stories…what are you working on this week?”

Looking back in retrospect, what my journalist colleagues, including my editors did not then list amongst the multifarious problems of the nation, is what is fast pushing Nigeria to the brink of intractable chaos that might result in another war, but this war, whenever it comes, will be A DIFFERENT WAR.

Perhaps, President Muhammadu Buhari and his team too, see the herders-farmers clashes as a MONKEY STORY, hence like Nero, he has been sleeping whilst Nigeria cracks and burns fast.

And for his sleeping predecessors – Jack, Olu, Gbadamosi, Adegunle, Abdul and Ebele, and not forgetting, Danjuma, that self-help chief priest and Ipoola, Anyaoku, let them too continue to regard the matter as a MONKEY STORY, and it sure might be too late when they finally wake up from their slumber!

And as we say in Naija: ONE DAY MONKEY GO GO MARKET, E NO GO RETURN AGAIN.

But hang on a minute: Did MB see the herders-farmers clashes as a “Monkey story” or simply as one of those DOGS AND BABOON STORIES?

As a warning, Nigerians must here be made aware that the Fulanis/Hausas/Kanuris and the Shuwa Arabs are undoubtedly using the case of the terrorists camouflaging as bandits/abductors and herdsmen to partake of the so-called national cake via ransoms as in the days of GEJ, consequent upon the demand for Amnesty for them as with the Niger Delta’s so-called FREEDOM FIGHTERS, and soon all Nigeria will be filled with the call to establish the Livestock Commission – the equivalent of the NDDC, when there is already THE PASTOAL RESOLVE, and the Nomadic Education Commission which Mallams Muhammadu Buhari, whose only achievement in that exalted office since 2015 is his notoriety for remembering all his loyalists’ birthdays and wedding anniversaries, and Ahmed Joda, both of whom have not deemed it fit to render account of their stewardships to the nation up to this time of writing since PARE officially took off in year 2000, having been incorporated in April 1999, whilst MB himself has been going about probing other Nigerians. I am particularly not surprised looking back in retrospect about Muhammadu Buhari’s insensitive refusal to respond to the herdsmen-farmers clashes because in all of my investigations round the North between 1992 and 1998, I had concluded again and again that ultra-conservative and medievalist elements like him would not be favourably disposed towards a change from subsistence and nomadic pastoralism to sedentary and economic pastoralism just to perpetuate tradition. And this is just what they are doing right now in the 21st, in addition to using the herders as mindless jihadists and savage territorial expansionists – aggressive land dispossessors!

But how will the new Ministry be called? FEDERAL MINISTRY OF THE FULANIS or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF THE FULANI BORROROS or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF THE HERDSMEN or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF BUSH FULANIS or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF COWS or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EGEDEBIA or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF MALU (Yala, for cows; Yoruba, for cows) or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF NAMA or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF RUGA/ZANGO or FEDERAL MINISTRY OF LIVESTOCK – and on behalf of posterity, I’d like to ask the Islamists/extremists/jihadists and the caliphate delusionists in the MUHAMMADU BUHARI-FULANI GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF BUHARIGERIA), thus: Must we grant amnesty to criminals in the name of FEDERAL CHARLATAN (FEDERAL CHARACTER); must we create a Commission for every headache that troubles the country?

And finally, must every problem in Nigeria have a ministry created before it can be tackled and solved?

In the mean, MAY GOD BLESS OUR NIGERIA.

NGO mobilises $31m for establishment of 6 grazing reserves in Nigeria

"The perennial clashes between pastoralists and farmers in the country have been attributed to the non-enforcement of grazing laws on the part of government.

A former retired Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Joda, said the global climate change phenomenon, had exacerbated desert encroachment, thereby pushing pastoralists further southwards in search of grazing lands.

He spoke with journalists in Abuja recently on plans by a Non Governmental Organisation, Pastoral Resolve (PARE) to mobilise N5 billion (about US$31 million) for the establishment of six grazing reserves in six states in northern Nigeria.

Joda said the continued clashes have their genesis in the fact that grazing laws are deliberately ignored, thereby encouraging encroachment of gazetted grazing reserves. ‘`Lack of political will and total neglect of the livestock sub-sector by the various governments has resulted in massive encroachment into both gazetted, proposed grazing reserves and blockage of stock routes in the country. ”The policy and legal vacuum serve to exacerbate the conflict between pastoralists and crop producers, a situation that continues to escalate over much of the northern and the middle-belt states of the country.

Joda, a retired Permanent Secretary, who is currently a farmer, expressed concern that the current tension between herdsmen and farmers constituted a threat to peace and national security, if not addressed. “I can see no peace, if we don’t solve this problem.

As important as oil and the manufacturing sectors are, the livestock industry provides nutrition and jobs, among other economic benefits. “At the rate we are going, there will be no grazing land; and this might result to a war along ethnic and religious lines. “If we have peace, and stability, we do not need security checks which drains the national economy, if we can develop the livestock industry and eliminate tension associated with it,” he said.

Joda explained that the NGO, Pastoral Resolve (PARE) which he is the President is set to mobilise N5 billion (about US$31 million) for the establishment of six grazing reserves in six states in northern Nigeria.

This initiative is aimed at solving the perennial conflicts between pastoralists and farmers occasioned by poor access to land and water, among other facilities. The targeted pilot states are Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger.

Pastoral Resolve is working on the project in collaboration with Enhancing Nigerian Advocacy for a Better Environment (ENABLE), a development agency.

Earlier, Mr Umar Hassan, the Chief Executive Officer of PARE, noted that only 12 of the 433 grazing reserves in the country were functional while 36 were receiving attention.

The livestock industry, Hassan said, had the potential to generate about US$ 20 billion but currently accounts for six to seven percent of the nation’s GDP, representing N250 billion (about US$1.5 billion).

According to him, there are 21 million pastoralists in Nigeria, representing 14 percent of the population, rearing 16 million cattle, among other livestock. "

THE PAST ALREADY IN THE PRESENT!

Photos:

  1. Major Kaduna Nzeogwu, the supposed leader of the January 15, 1966 coup – the first of its kind in post-colonial Nigeria. Nzeogwu gleefully announced after that very bloody coup… “I killed the bloody tyrant!” And a part of his coup speech reads: “There are five of us in the inner circle and we seized power to stamp out corruption, nepotism, favouritism, regionalism and ethnicity. Did that we did for the good of our fatherland. We are all true Nigerians, and it is only in the army do you get true Nigerianism.”
  2. Major General Johnson Thomas Umunakwe Ironsi, the then Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Federal Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Ironside, much hated by the Fulanis, Hausas, the Kanuris and the Shuwa Arabs, but the quartet who have dominated rulership and governance of Nigeria since 1960 till the very present have been clinging tenaciously to his ideology of unitarism as a parasite would its host in their ruling of Nigeria – and that naturally tiny ligament that has held the nation together very precariously, has been thinning and thinning in the last 61 years, and might snap any moment, and it may never be sewn together anymore…NIGERIA: FRAGILE, HANDLE WITH UTMOST CARE!
  3. Samuel Adekunle Fajuyi: GOOD AND GALANT SOLDIER FOREVER! Faj taught the world of soldiering that both gallantry and loyalty are like Siamese twins.

Arrogant Ahmadu Bello, the Islamist who ferociously and aggressively advanced, promoted and pursued the FAMILY COMPACT agenda to tame, conquer/subdue/pacify and dominate the part of the country he disdainfully referred to as the "pagan South." It must here be recorded for all conscientious humanity and posterity that Nigeria has not been working because of this man, his family, ancestors, other descendants of Uthman Dan Foduye and all of the Fulani, Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa Arab ethnic nationalities and the Arabs in far off East, even the Sunni House of Saud, promoting Salafism/Wahabism. But will broken and scattered Nigeria ever weaned herself from this man, family and his satanic ideology, and by extension, the Fulanis, the Hausas, the Kanuris, the Shuwa Arabs and the Arabs entire?

THE IMMINENT JUDGEMENT ON THE NORTH -

THE DAY OF THE PEOPLE AND THE GREAT REVOLT OF THE TALAKAWAS

As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”

“Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; everyone will be thrown down.”

Mark 13: 1-2.

ABOUT THE COMING DESTRUCTION IN THE NORTH

“But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.”

  • Amos 5:24.

A time is coming and coming very soon that time when every palace in the North will be reduced to a rubble, and every obscene mansion/castle shall be reduced to ashes with not a block standing on the other, and every oppressor in a twinkle of an eye shall become a mere charcoal and ash. This is the GREAT REVOLUTION IN THE NORTH, yea, the TALAKAWA REVOLT/REVOLUTION fiercer and worse than the French Revolution of 1789 and the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, whereupon every bond person shall set themselves free, and throw into yon Niger and Benue their age-long shackles/chains and take their rightful ownership of the North.

Come quickly that day. Lord, hasten that Day, and let that GREAT DAY COME QUICKLY – And come quickly, it sure will, but no one knoweth the GREAT HOUR.

THE CHANGE THAT MUST COME AND COME QUICKLY IT MUST!

Change is coming!

If Nigerians do not make conscious efforts to bring about change in their country that will change change, the change that will change change will change them very adversely. Meaning, that change will be an unpleasant change in an unchanging situation and environment. But in the universe created by the unchanging God, only the unchanging supreme deity Himself is the unchangeable changer and the immoveable mover. Thus, if you don’t change change, change will change you, and if you don’t make a change to change change, change will change you.

But have you no conscience that for your today, you have mortgaged their tomorrow?

Ango Abdullahi Backs Quit Notice To Igbos Issued By Northern Youths by theemy(m): 8:52am On Jun 092017

ABU ex-VC, Ango Abdullahi, backs relocation declaration

The spokesman of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Prof. Ango Abdullahi, has thrown his weight behind the ejection notice, saying the youths were only ventilating their anger over the unpalatable behaviour of their guests.

The former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria told The Guardian on phone that he remained in support of the youths’ demand.

His words: “The northern youths are voicing out their anger and frustration over the irresponsible behaviour of Igbo youths and elders. The Igbo elders cannot pretend or say that they do not know the history of this country. We all know how the first coup was hatched against the north. We know who masterminded that political coup and the aftermath.

“But we the northerners endured it and carried on as if nothing happened in the spirit of brotherhood. That was why in the Second Republic, an Igbo man, Chief Alex Ekwueme, became a deputy to President Shehu Shagari.

“I have never seen a country where there was a civil war and somebody from the part of the country that waged the war against the nation became a leader in the country so quickly. The Igbo should remember that politics of democracy is politics of election, not agitation.”

On the way forward, the ex-university helmsman said the arrogant and irresponsible actions of Igbo leaders and youths should stop immediately.
