PART TWO

SERIES: CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA

WHAT IS CORRUPTION?

...Bursting the Muhammadu Buhari's Deceptive, Messianic Posturing & Saintly Myth

"For the congregation of the hypocrites
shall be desolate
and fire shall consume the
tabernacles of bribery" (Job 15:34).

Longman Dictionary: "Dishonest, illegal or immoral behaviour; especially from someone with power."
Whilst The TI, which has published the ‘Corruption Perceptions Index’ since 1995, defines corruption as “the misuse of public power for private benefits.”
****Read and analyse the TI's corruption index on Nigeria.
ADUMAEAN DEFINITION OF CORRUPTION: My definition of corruption is any undignifying act; corruption is a mind disease or the disease of the mind or mind leprosy. It is a manifestation of a depraved mind or a mind that is sick, full of garbage, rubbish, grass, worms, locusts, vultures, caterpillars, hence enables all sorts of vice to thrive/grow thereon. A corrupt mind is an unhealthy mind trapped in an unhealthy body...a sort of an unsound mind in an unsound body when in fact, it ought to be A SOUND MIND IN A SOUND BODY as goes the motto of my alma mater ALADURA COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL, ANTHONY VILLAGE, LAGOS, NIGERIA.
The Scripture says: "If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light" (Matt. 6:22). In accordance with my college motto as above, I will put it in my own words thus: If your mind is sound, your whole body will be full of light.

The mind of a people or the national mind in its most depraved state is incapable of imaginativeness, creativity, inventiveness and innovativeness. This explains the paucity of imaginations, inventions, creativity and innovations in modern Nigeria and indeed, modern Africa because a mind that is leprous is dead, leaving its owner who may be a person, a community, a country, a race, a generation and the entire human community in a given epoch with an equally dead conscience, brains and intellects!
Mind leprosy is the worst type of leprosy. It is a numbed state in which the sufferer cuts themselves from the universal world of "we", "we-we", "we-you", "we-they", "thou", "thou-thou/"you-you", "us", "us-us", "them-us" and transport themselves to the lonely island of "I", "I-I", "I-I-I", "me", "me-me", "me-me-me", where they insulate themselves from the world of universalism and become very selfish, self-centred, greedy, grossly inconsiderate, intolerant, despotic, tyrannical, totalitarian, authoritarian, controlling, very wicked, totally inhuman and totally lacking universal altruism.

Corruption is a sympton of the presence in Nigeria of what I call "the inexplicable worst something" that could ever happen to a nation. But what is that INEXPLICABLE WORST SOMETHING? Find it! Dig it! Destroy it!

Examples: appropriating for your own use anything entrusted to you without having the authorization or the right to do so. And such a thing entrusted to you could be by the State for the general good of the Commonwealth or all concerned, especially the citizenry and such other persons directly or indirectly connected to that State or such a State. Others that may for purpose of trust entrust their belongings and other things to one include your relations, friends, acquaintances, just neighbours, colleages, superiors at workplaces or at any useable and habitable places. In this wise, corruption can be an abuse of trust.

Whilst the dictionary definition of corruption is highly restrictive, the Adumaean definition encompasses all undignifying acts as a President-elect banning a news group in a democracy, in this case, the AIT from covering his activities/programmes in the guise of security precaution, thus making himself a tyrannical potentate who will arrogate to himself, even when he is not yet sworn in, the dignity of setting ethical codes of practice for the nation's news men and women and in the process of so doing, usurp such role as spelt out in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the role of the Nigerian Union of Journalists and such other media regulatory bodies in Nigeria.

What is more; by such parochialism, making himself a theocratic despot giving the impression that the AIT journalists were terrorists who had just escaped the military might of the Jonathan boys from Sambisa forest and were out for their last attacks at the Defence Building, where the President-elect is currently esconced as if telling the Nigerian electorate who had just been brow-beaten into casting their ballots under duress for him that, "Once a soldier, always a soldier...Old soldier never dies."
If Buhari has decided to continue with his traditional despotism, couldn't he have gone the way he knows best and be quartered in Doddan Barracks? But why the choice of hiding at Defence Building to dish out orders, making good his fellow Bolekaja wayfarers' threat of forming a parallel government, disregarding the authority of the sitting President as if telling his Western Media friends, having snubbed the home media to tell the world that "My administration is an off-shoot of the one of 1983-1985 when he truncated the duly elected democratic Government of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, and was himself to be sent packing later by the foxy Niger Fox."

Still addicted to Nigeria and proudly leading the NATIONALISTS UNITY MOVEMENT OF NIGERIA (NUMON).
