He added that the digital ticketing initiative is designed to guarantee value for money and reduce leakages, urging the Ministry of Transportation to ensure effective supervision and regular maintenance of the vehicles.
“These buses were purchased with taxpayers’ money and must be protected. I also call on both drivers and passengers to maintain cleanliness and ensure the vehicles are well kept,” he said.
Receiving the vehicles, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Bala Kokani, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor and reassured the public of the ministry’s commitment to proper management and maintenance of the buses.
He commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto for his consistent investment in the transport sector, noting that such efforts have greatly improved passenger convenience and safety.
“I want to assure His Excellency that we will protect these vehicles as we protect our personal belongings,” Kokani added.
It will be recalled that since assuming office, the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu has procured a total of 70 vehicles for mass transit, comprising 50 buses and 20 Toyota Camrys, aimed at strengthening both inter-state and intra-city transport services.
The initiative forms part of the administration’s broader efforts to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal and enhance mobility across Sokoto State.
The information was contained in a press release issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto.
